Alright. I’ve had this thing for almost a year. Time to get building.

Battle Beyond The Stars Valkyrie Dart
Posted by: jcbrown - 11-04-2022, 03:08 PM - Forum: User Created Models - Replies (2)

The 1980 film Battle Beyond The Stars is a seriously guilty pleasure for me, and I wanted models from the film since I saw it in the movie theater - yes, Roger Corman made money off of me.

As studio scale builds go, this is one of the simpler models - of course, figuring out the part ID's took me forever!

References for this ship: essentially, you take a screen-capture of *every freakin scene* this ship is featured in the movie, and stare at them until you see the two Tamiya 1/35 Sd.Kfz. 232 Schwerer Panzerspahwagen 8-Rads joined together to make up the aft fuselage. Then it is just a matter buying 2 of the 8-rads and a bunch of sheet styrene and getting to it!

(as built) Parts List

(2) Monogram F-15 Eagle 1/48
(2) Tamiya. 1/35 Sd.Kfz. 232 Schwerer Panzerspahwagen 8-Rad
(1) Lindberg / Glencoe Lunar Lander
(1) Airfix Saturn V
(1) Tamiya 1/35 20mm Flak38 Sd.Ah.52
(1) Tamiya 1/35 German 88mm Gun Flak 36/37
(1) Tamiya 1/35 German Hanomag Sd.Kfz. 251/1
(1) Airfix SRN4 Hovercraft
(1) Hasegawa-Minicraft 1/72 Leopold
(2) 1/24 engine cylinder headers (?) unsure of name, came from old mixed parts box

-Plastruct 6mm spheres (any 6mm styrene beads should do)

-lots of sheet styrene

I didn't feel like adding lights even though lights (only one, really) are only needed for the main engine at the aft end of the 8-Rad hulls.  I used a wide strip of 3M reflective tape where the light should be.

I was happy with the build, and so was Sybil Danning when I gifted it to her at Wonderfest 2018.  Of course, that means I have to build another one for me...

  Hi, everyone!

Joe Brown reporting in! I've been a scifi modeler since my dad helped me build the TOS Enterprise back in 1969... yep, I'm old.

I've only done a few studio scale builds; the Rag-tag Fleet Eagle-bash ship from Galactica was my first effort.  Cowboy's Freight Hauler and St.Exmin's Valkyrie Dart from Battle Beyond the Stars are builds I'm pretty proud of, and also, the laser-blaster rifle from Starcrash -- technically a prop, but, it made Carolyn Munroe smile and give me a hug, so I'm good with that... Big Grin

Currently doing half-studio-scale build of the 1977 Filmation Space Academy planetoid that has been eating most of my free time.

  Hello!!
Posted by: vfxart - 10-31-2022, 06:32 PM - Forum: New Member Introductions - No Replies

Well the thread told me to start a thread and say hello.

Me here, been an on/off modelbuilder since childhood, replica builder (wasn't 'studio scale' then) since '85-'86 when I lived < a mile or so from a shop that ILM used to raid. Lots of info from employees and another builder or two. Later, my modelbuilding prof in college had worked on Jedi etc too, so that was a blast. Have worked at LFL, got to know quite a few folks, friends, old mentors and such. Coming back around with digital and traditional builds still.

Heyo! I am ffoeg on the rpf.

I've a SS Y based on Dave G's files on the go. Sidetracked lately by all the resin 3D printing things but I expect to be back to the Y before the end of the year.

Hi, I'm the same Studio Kitbash that is on TheRPF.

I've been building Star Wars studio scale since 2016.

To date, I have completed exactly one ship:  an SS Y-Wing, scratchbuilt using DaveG's armature.

Currently working on a 5-footer Millennium Falcon.

Rules of our community. Please make sure you read before posting
Posted by: jcoffman99 - 10-19-2022, 02:55 PM - Forum: Rules of the Site ALL MEMBERS PLEASE READ - No Replies

Welcome to SciFiKitbash. I hope that your time here will be filled with lots of fun and discoveries. There are just a few rules to get out of the way before the fun begins.

1. Be nice.
I want this to be a community where everyone feels welcome. We're all on different levels physically, mentally, socially, skillswise, etc. Let's be supportive and sharing. If you find yourself getting worked up about something or someone, take a break. Walk away. Go outside. Don't type in anger.

2. No cursing.
I want a family friendly environment where we can hopefully encourage the next generation of modelers. No cursing. Seriously. Keep if family friendly...please.

3. No politics, religion, or any other "sensitive" topics. We have an entertainment forum. Let's keep it to entertainment.

Hopefully we're all here because we love models, want to build models, and share our knowledge and experiences. If we stick to that, I think we'll do great.

John
